Q. What is Amber?
A. Amber is the fossilized resin of trees. 40 million years ago, this resin was exuded by trees to heal damage to a branch or trunk. Heat, pressure, oxygen and light exposure are the contributing factor in the creation amber but the most important factor is time. Amber is like a time capsule that lets us take a peek into the prehistoric times. Tree resin would trap everything it touched before it had a chance to harden. The resin remained intact to become a fossil and still retains its healing properties.

Q.  What is Baltic Amber?
A. This is amber from areas around the Baltic Sea in Europe.  Baltic Amber is the only type of amber you should use for healing.  It contains a higher percentage (8%) of succinite, the key component affiliated with Baltic Amber healing properties, than amber from any other area.  Our company is located in Gdansk [Poland] which is known as the World's Capital of Baltic Amber. Therefore, you might be sure that our jewelry is made of genuine Baltic Amber. View our Amber Collection.

A.
Baltic Amber is a scientific phenomenon that contains fossil plants and insects that date back to over 40 million years. Finding bugs and plants frozen for millions of years is an exciting experience. Most of the life-forms found in true fossil amber are now extinct. Baltic Amber gives us all a great opportunity to view a fascinating world of prehistoric times.

Q.  What is Baltic Amber used for?
A. Amber has been used since antiquity in the manufacture of jewelry and ornaments, as an ingredient in perfumes and has long been used in Folk and Alternative Medicine for its healing properties. Amber jewelry has become very popular today especially since it was discovered that there are a vast of therapeutic effects.

Q.  Is Amber considered a gem or precious stone?
A. While often considered a gemstone amber is not actually a stone, but a fossilized resin from ancient evergreen trees, which has been appreciated for its color and natural beauty since Neolithic times. The young amber stones are less than 100.000 years old, but the most valued pieces of amber are much older than that. Amber is the only stone that is not cold to touch and is very light in weight.

Q.  How does Baltic Amber work?
A. Thanks to the effectiveness of succinic acid [a natural analgesic and healing agent] Baltic Amber is a popular and natural healer. As far back as the time of Hippocrates, the great Greek philosopher known as the “Father of Western Medicine”, Baltic Amber has been used as a remedy for many ailments from teething pain to arthritis. The common belief is that the body heats the amber, causing it to release oils containing succinic acid. The succinic acid, in turn, gets absorbed into the bloodstream, helping to ease the pain. Therefore it is advised to wear amber close to the skin. Best results will be achieved if it is worn 24/7.

Q. What are Baltic Amber healing properties?
A. Amber has natural pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It is particularly well known to help with the pain of bone and joints. Therefore it is a natural remedy for teething babies. But its positive benefit does not end there.  Our Customers have reported that amber has helped for many chronic conditions including skin conditions [eczema], migraine, fibromyalgia, thyroid problems,  rheumatoid arthritis, repetitive strain injuries.  Amber can also help ease stress and promotes more restful sleep. Q. Should you see an effect immediately?
A. Some people find they notice an improvement by the next day. But it can take longer for others. Just like taking food supplements, you will not feel an immediate effect. We advise adults to commit to wearing it for 3 to 4 weeks.

Q. What are the benefits of amber teething necklaces for babies?
A. Amber teething necklaces are designed to be worn by babies when they are teething. Thanks to the effectiveness of succinic acid they help alleviate teething pain in a non-invasive and drug-free way.
The common belief is that the child’s body heats the amber, causing it to release oils containing succinic acid. The succinic acid, in turn, gets absorbed into the bloodstream, helping to ease baby’s pain. Baltic Amber has an impressively salutary effect on teething babies:
  • It alleviates teething pain
  • Reduces inflammation [especially in the gums]
  • Provides calming effects without the use of drugs

Q.  How to keep a baby safe when using Amber Teething Necklace?
A. Recently there is so much discussion about chocking or strangulation hazard. The truth is that leaving a child with anything unattended (toys, pencil, toothbrush) might lead to baby’s harm or disaster. When putting a teething necklace on baby’s neck you need to be cautious and follow 4 Golden Rules:

  1. Always supervise a child when he or she is wearing the necklace (necklace has to be removed when the infant is unattended, even if it is only for a short period of time).
  2. Take off the necklace when a baby is sleeping (at day naps or night).  Necklaces are supposed to be used when a baby is awake.
  3. Do not allow your baby to mouth or chew the necklace. A baby can and will probably want to use other physical forms of teething relief like teething biscuits or a frozen washcloth.
  4. Buy the safest and most solid necklaces.

Q.  What age can you use an amber teething necklace?
A. Amber necklaces can be worn by children aged between 2 months to 3 years of age – which is about the time baby teething stops. In fact, getting your baby used to wearing an amber necklace from a young age is a good idea as the earlier the baby starts with the necklace, the easier it becomes a part of them.

Q.  What to do with a necklace when teething is over?
A.
We recommend the Amber Teething Necklace be worn even after teething is finished as the many other benefits of amber's therapeutic properties will continue. Amber has immune boosting properties and helps with many other ailments. Besides, it is so beautiful and lightweight accessory that many mums are buying same necklaces for themselves. Q.  Does the Amber necklace ever lose its potency? Do I have to reorder one after a certain period of time?
A.
Amber doesn’t lose its potency and you don’t have to reorder one after a certain period of time. It is known as a living stone. Therefore we love it.
However, light and temperature cause that it changes its color and structure. The uncovered surface oxidizes and becomes darker. It is less luminous and transparent, the surface becomes rougher. But still, it doesn’t lose its healing properties at all. It gets older as all of us. That’s a living stone though:-)

Q.  How do I know if my Baltic Amber is fake or real?
A. If your Baltic Amber jewelry does not contain any silver or gold plated elements it is very easy to test it. To do so, mix together a solution of 1 part salt to 2 parts water. [For example, you could use 1/3 cup salt to 2/3 cup water.] Dissolve the salt completely and drop your necklace or bracelet in the mixture. Plastic and glass will sink, while true Baltic Amber will float. You can also rub the necklace against a piece of cloth to see if it causes the cloth to become static enough to pick up paper. Static increases the likelihood you have real Baltic Amber.

If your Baltic Amber jewelry contains silver or any other metal items you can still check if it is fake or real. Watch this video and see how we test our amber jewelry (click here).

Q.  How should I care for my amber jewelry?
A. Baltic amber requires particular attention and care to ensure it stands the test of time, maintains its color, and looks as good tomorrow as it does today.

Here are some points you should pay attention to:

  • Genuine amber can scratch easily, especially when it comes into contact with metal. This is why we recommend that you store your amber jewelry in a soft flannel or velvet pouch. Avoid storing it alongside other jewelry in a box or drawer.
  • Be sure to keep perfume, hairspray, and soaps like shampoo and conditioner away from the amber, and never place your jewelry in commercial cleaning solutions.
  • Remove your amber jewelry when bathing, cooking or applying sunscreen.
  • Do not leave your amber in direct sunlight, as excessive heat can cause long-lasting damage.

Q. How should I clean Baltic Amber?
A. It's important to regularly maintain and clean your amber to ensure it retains its rich, vibrant color and continues to shine brightly. This is particularly important when it comes to amber teething necklaces for kids, as dirt, dust and other germ-ridden substances can form on the jewelry with everyday use, which isn't something you want your little one putting in their mouth.
Follow these steps:

  1. Prepare a bowl or sink of lukewarm water. When doing so, avoid adding any harsh detergents, chemicals or cleaning agents as these can easily damage your amber.
  2. Dip a microfiber or flannel cloth into the water, and wring it out so that the cloth is damp, but not wet.
  3. Gently wipe the cloth over the Baltic amber, removing dirt, dust, body oils and other surface material as you do so.

Note: Be sure to individually clean and dry each amber bead. If left to dry on their own, the excess water can leave your amber beads with a cloudy appearance. Just dip in warm water and rub dry with a soft cloth. Plain water will not harm the amber but washing agents/detergents may so take it off while in the bath or swimming pool.  Do not let your amber come in contact with hot water or a hot radiator.

Q. How to polish Baltic Amber?
A. Once your amber is clean, apply a small amount of olive oil to your hands or a cloth and gently rub this into the amber. Remove any excess oil with another soft, dry cloth to polish the amber and restore its trademark shine.

Q.  What should I know about different amber colors and shapes?
A. Amber comes from nature in a range of colors from transparent through the color spectrum to black.  If it is genuine Baltic Amber, it contains 8% succinite and all colors work in the same way. It comes naturally in different sizes and shapes. These are graded and categorized to make different products. From a therapeutic perspective, there is no difference between the light amber color and the dark. You can choose which you think will look best. The choice is purely aesthetical. Because amber is natural, every product is unique and different. If you are not sure which color will suit you best or which color to choose for someone else click here and find out We have also prepared a short video. Q. Is raw or polished amber better?
A.
Raw Baltic Amber is a pure, untreated and unprocessed stone that comes directly from Baltic Sea. In comparison to polished amber, it contains more succinic acid which is more easily absorbed through the skin. However, we do not recommend raw amber for teething babies. Untreated and sharp beads might be totally uncomfortable and can irritate the baby's delicate skin. Go for polished beads when choosing teething necklaces. As for adults, you can choose either raw or polished. It is your choice. Please note that raw beads are less comfortable, but will naturally polish from contact with your skin making the color richer.
